In The Power of Apology I wrote that
Massachusetts had passed a bill allowing people to say
“I’m sorry” at the scene of an accident without
having to worry about being held liable for the
accident. Since that writing, a total of five states
have now passed what is entitled the “Benevolent
Gesture Act.” (Caution:
The bill only protects a person who says they are sorry,
however, not if they say the accident was their fault).
